Don't Buy This House is a site born out of the frustration we encountered during the house buying process.

For example, a survey that revealed subsidence - when this was reported back to the estate agent, he calmly said yes, that had come up before! How many people wasted their money surveying the same property?

Talking to friends and colleagues, it seems that nearly everyone has come across problems - damp, rot, subsidence, roofing, enviromental hazards, planning proposals - which may not be immediately obvious, and only come to light after you have spent hundreds of pounds on surveys and searches.

Another example, with sellers currently doing their best to inflate prices, and estate agents happy to get greater commissions, you may only get a true idea of the value of a property by paying for a survey and valuation. Wouldn't you like to know if a previous recent valuation showed a true figure well below the current asking price?

Which is why we have developed this site to allow you to:

  • Search for this information before incurring any other expense.
  • Report problems and recoup your expenses.
